Container ship impounded over $900m Suez Canal claim

The huge Ever Specified container ship that blocked the Suez Canal for 6 times could be seized by Egyptian courts as the waterway’s operators fight for payment caused by the disruption.

A court docket in the Egyptian city of Ismailia has granted a request by the Suez Canal Authority to seize the 200,000 tonne, one,312ft vessel, nearby media noted.

Lt. Gen. Osama Rabie mentioned the hulking Ever Specified would not be allowed to leave the place right until a payment sum is settled on with the vessel’s Japanese operator, Shoei Kisen Kaisha Ltd.

“The vessel is now formally impounded,” he told Egypt’s point out-run television. “They do not want to spend everything.”

There was no quick remark from the vessel’s operator.
