Adding new pages

First navigate to the section where you want the new page to go.
Then in the 'Address' bar of your browser add /Page Title and press 'return'. The page title will be the link added to the menu bar on the left hand side of the screen so make sure it is easy for visitors to understand.

You will then be informed that there is no content for a page of that name.

Click 'edit' (bottom left) and enter your password

You will then be able to add content to the new page.

Deleting a page

If you want to delete a page, simply check the 'delete' box next to all the content on it. When you click the 'save and return to page' button you will be shown the 'no content' page again and its menu item will have been removed.

Images

When adding images to the pages it is important that you make them the right size first. This ensures that the layout of the page remains intact, and that the site will still load satisfactorily for browsers with normal internet connections.

Images in the page area
These must be no wider than 500 pixels
200 x 150 pixels (portrait or landscape) is a good guide.

Images in the sidebar
These must be no wider than 160 pixels
160 x 100 pixels landscape or 160 x 210 pixels portrait is a good guide.

Linking to an existing page

Simply follow the five steps below:

  1. Navigate to the page which will be the destination of the link.
  2. In the 'address' bar of your browser copy the part immediately following the word 'index' including the forward slash.
  3. Return to the page on which the link will be placed and find or enter the text which will form the link.
  4. Highlight the text and click the button above the text-edit box that looks like a page with a chain on it.
  5. Paste the page address that you copied into the dialog box and click OK.

The editor will add bracketed code around your link text that will look like this:

[page=/The_section/Page]Visit the Blah page[/page]

Note: Users of browsers other than Internet Explorer will be prompted to enter 'text to make into a link' during the process.

Save and return to the page and click the link to make sure it works. If you see the 'no content' page, something has gone wrong. It is likely that the address of the page is slightly wrong or may be missing the initial '/'.

Once you are more familiar with the process you may choose to type the [page=]  [/page] code directly. Editors familiar with html may also use <a href=""></a> links, providing the href value includes '/index' at the start.

Calendar events

The combined calendar page is generated automatically from first six events, and cannot be edited directly.

To add a calendar item first visit the page of one of the churches, JAB or 'Other Events'. Click 'edit' (bottom left) on that page and then add an event title and text. It is important to remember that these events are displayed in various places on the site, so make sure the title or text describe the location. Events added to the calendar section will automatically display in the churches' diary pages and the home page.

Then use the three boxes to the right of the entry to define
Start (the date from which the event will appear, typically today)
Event (date only or date and time)
Expire (the end date or date and time)

Important If you're unsure when an event ends remember to set the expire time to 23:59 on the day of the event, this ensures it appears with start time only.

When the item is shown the date(s) and time(s) you have entered will appear as links to the Calendar overview pages.

Adding panels

To put items in the panels on the right hand side of the screen, click the 'sidebar' checkbox next to the header field.

To put items in coloured panels in the main page area you need to 'wrap' your words in special tags, like this:

Here is the heading

This is the text that we wanted to appear on a panel. Use class="greenpanel", class="bluepanel" or class="purplepanel" to change the colour. You should be able to copy the text below and paste it into your own 'section' box. Make sure you include the </h3> and </div> tags or the page might not appear properly.

<div class="yellowpanel"><h3>Here is the heading</h3>
This is the text that we wanted to appear on a panel...</div>

Shareboard

For admin access to the Shareboard, click one of the 'admin' buttons below any of the messages.

Log in with your password then click the back button on your browser twice, or reload the page.

The admin buttons will now be active:

[<] will add a reply to the message
[+] will allow you to edit the message
[X] will delete the message (this is not undoable and there is no 'confirm' so only click this button if you are sure you want the message deleted!)

The shareboard has already been configured to reject common swearwords and obscenities. If there are other admin issues or to ban an IP address, contact Mike Kendall.

Log out
