Spring Harvest 2006 'One God'
SPRING HARVEST 2006
The Big Story: “One God,” that was the theme of this years Spring Harvest event, a time when thousands of Christians took over the Butlins site in Minehead to sing, worship, listen, discuss, pray, and generally explore, in a variety of ways, our one God.
Having never been before, I wasn’t sure what to expect, although talking to others who had been gave us a bit of an insight – we knew it was going to be busy! Just reading through the programme was a mammoth task as there was so much on offer. Our group of about 20, mainly from St Aldhelms, was quite a mixed bunch but I believe our differing needs were all well catered for. As a parent I was pleased that the children’s groups were secure and obviously enjoyable so that allowed me the freedom and time to be fully engaged in the programme I chose to attend each morning and evening.
In the afternoons there was plenty to do on site from swimming, to the fun fair, wandering around countless stalls learning about different organisations, or playing on the beach. There were also plenty of other groups available throughout the day offering a wide choice including further teaching, learning new songs, opportunities to seek God in private or alternative ways to worship: two of our number for example attended a session on banner waving!
Whichever groups we attended, I believe we were all challenged and inspired by the Holy Spirit as we were confronted anew by the “Big Issues” of the Bible, that there is only One God who created not just the world, but the Universe. That there is only One way to have a relationship with God, through His son Jesus Christ who is both fully God and fully human. And that this same God has sovereignty in the world today. Big issues indeed!
Overall, a time of challenge, refreshment, relaxation, enjoyment, and exhaustion. An experience I would strongly recommend to one and all!
