Easter Labyrinth 2006

Easter Labyrinth 2006

See. Hear. Touch. Taste. Smell.

In April 2006 a new Prayer Labyrinth was be opened in the Crypt at St Pauls, during Holy Week and Easter. Previous labyrinths have attracted a wide range of people from inside and outside the Church. This time we opened the Labyrinth for longer to allow more people to experience it.

Easter Labyrinth at St Paul's Crypt 11-22 April 2006

Weekdays 12noon - 2pm and 5-7pm
Late opening Thursdays 7-9pm
Saturdays and Bank Holidays 11am-3pm
Closed Easter Sunday.

A prayer labyrinth takes us on a journey designed to help us think about Christ's suffering as he journeyed towards the cross, and to reflect on the events of Easter.  It will help us think and pray about our own lives too, and about people who are suffering in the world today.  The labyrinth has been used for centuries for prayer and spiritual growth.  This kind of multi-sensory worship is growing in popularity once more.

If you have never visited a labyrinth before, don’t worry – there's nothing "weird" about it!  The crypt has been laid out with a pathway which leads to various numbered stations, which are mini multi-sensory installations designed to help you to pray, think and meet God.  Everything is clearly numbered and labelled to assist you on your journey.  You can spend as long or as little time as you wish – there are no "marks out of ten" for spirituality!

Further down the page you will find online versions of previous 'Labyrinths' which will give you an idea of what it was like.

ALTERnativity at St Aldhelm's Church - Advent 2005

This prayer labyrinth was set up during advent 2005 at St Aldhelm's church to help us think about the journey that the wise men made to the manger in Bethlehem all those years ago; and also to help us prepare to make our own journey towards Christmas, to prepare for the birth of the Christ child in our own way.

For those who missed it, or would like to take the journey again, there is an online version.

To view the online version you will need the Flash6 player. In the unlikely event that you don't have it, simply follow the instructions in the pop-up window.

Easter Prayer Labyrinth 2005

This was the first labyrinth to be opened in the Parish. It was set up  during holy week at St Aldhelm's in 2005. It proved to be a profound and moving experience for many people, whether regular churchgoers or curious passers-by.

The labyrinth consisted of a winding path through the church building. Unlike a maze, there were no dead ends and you could not get lost. Along the path there were opportunities to stop, think and respond as the journey unfolded.
