Genealogy and Family History

We have a number of enquiries every month from people researching their family history, family tree and genealogy. Unfortunately the Parish does not offer a service for searching the Parish Records and Registers, but you may find the following resources helpful (links open in a new window).

Parish Records

Unfortunately the parish office won't be able to help
The parish only has access to quite recent records of weddings and baptisms, older records are held in the Records office. The following records are held by the Parish:

St Aldhelm's
Wedding Register July 1984-present
Baptism Register Mar 1979-present

St Francis'
Wedding Register Oct 1982-present
Baptism Register Oct 1985-present

St Paul's
Wedding Register Aug 1998-present
Baptism Register Oct 1979-present

Older parish records
Over 800 years of Bristol's historic archive is held at the Bristol Record Office

You can check to see if they are likely to have the information you require using the 'handlist'

Churches and chapels

Along with the churches which are still living and active, several churches in the area have fallen into disuse, been demolished or redeveloped. www.churchcrawler.co.uk is a website which provides architectural information and pictures of churches in the area - past and present.

Bristol and Avon Family History Society

Formed in 1975 to encourage the study of family history and genealogy in Bristol and the (former) county of Avon. Their website is frequently updated and includes details of the Research Room at the Bristol Record Office with BAFHS volunteers on hand to help.

1901 Census

Find details and records registered in the 1901 Census
