Wake us up Jesus

A prayer-poem for the dark cold days of winter...

Wake us up, Jesus.
The days are cold and dark.
We'd rather hibernate.
Wake us up, Jesus.
The alarm is ringing.
It’s time to rise and shine - the day is dawning.
You are coming soon and we need to get ready now.

How?
Not by ignoring or wasting the
opportunities you give us,
but by asking you to help us put ourselves
right with God and with others.
What do you want us to do?
What do you want us to leave behind?
Forgive us our half-heartedness,
our yawning devotions, our wandering thoughts,
our self-centred neglect of your other children in need or despair,
and our involvement with the sin of the world - your fallen world.
Stir us up.
Challenge us.
Inspire and move us.
Wake us up to the realisation that with you
there are no no-go areas,
work or leisure, pain or pleasure,
for this is your world
and we should serve you in it.
Amen.
